Shivamogga, Aug 18 : The Prison Ministry Volunteers' Orientation Programme was held at Sannidhi on 17 August 2025.

Most Rev. Dr Francis Serrao SJ, Bishop of Diocese of Shimoga, addressed the gathering, emphasizing that prisoners are not born criminals but are often shaped by societal structures. He highlighted the interconnectedness of political, economic, cultural, and intellectual systems that govern society and impact individuals.

The Bishop urged the volunteers to address the root causes of societal evils rather than just their symptoms. As the Jubilee Year, he encouraged them to work tirelessly to reach out to the vulnerable and bring hope to their lives. The programme included a Eucharistic celebration at noon, followed by lunch, after which the participants dispersed.

Sr Helen SCB, Incharge for Prison Ministry in the Diocese of Shimoga, organized this Orientation Programme. 19 volunteers attended the programme.
