Shivamogga, May 26 : To commemorate the Jubilee Year 2025, the Shimoga Diocesan Health Commission held a special event for healthcare professionals on May 25, 2025, at the Diocesan Pastoral Renewal Centre, Sannidhi, in Shivamogga.
The conference opened with a prayer service focused on the theme, "We are called and gifted by our God." Fr. Simon Pinto, Diocesan Commissions Coordinator, offered welcoming remarks. Sr. Judy Saldanha, Secretary of the Health Commission, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing a holistic approach to healthcare: "We serve not just the body, but the whole person—body and soul." She highlighted the importance of addressing both physical and emotional needs, acknowledged the challenges inherent in healthcare ministry, and stressed the need for patience, compassion, and faith. Sr. Judy expressed appreciation for the invaluable service of all diocesan healthcare workers.

Rev. Fr. Santhosh Dias, National Executive Secretary of the CBCI Office for Healthcare, addressed participants today on the Church's apostolic healthcare mission. He emphasized that their work is a continuation of God's healing ministry, encouraging holistic care and Gospel witness through actions and words.
In his message, the Most Rev. Dr. Francis Serrao, Bishop of the Diocese of Shimoga, thoughtfully considered the importance of the Jubilee Year 2025. He compared the work of healthcare professionals to the love shown by Jesus on the cross, emphasizing the profound effect of compassionate care. The Bishop encouraged future meetings and welcomed suggestions for improving the healing ministry within the diocese. He also expressed gratitude for the organization of the first diocesan-wide assembly of healthcare workers.
The program concluded with a concelebrated Eucharistic celebration led by the Bishop, followed by a shared meal. About eighty participants attended, enjoying meaningful interactions with their colleagues and leaving with renewed spirits and joy.
