Mangaluru, Jan 8, 2018 : St Agnes College (autonomous) on January 5 organized a one-day national level intercollegiate fest 'Melange 2018' in which 16 colleges participated. The theme of the fest 'Mélange' is a French word which denotes mixture and the fest depicted a mixture of the supreme elements of life namely earth, water, fire, air and space.

The programme commenced at 9.00 am with a vibrant inaugural ceremony. Chief guest, Elton Mascarenhas, a popular cine star was received by the principal, the members of staff and the student cabinet at the college gate and led to the inaugural venue in a grand ceremonial march. This was followed by a traditional welcome. Among the dignitaries on stage alongside the chief guest were Sr Dr Maria Roopa AC, superior of St Agnes Convent and joint secretary of St Agnes College who presided over the programme, Sr Dr M Jeswina AC, principal of the host college, Marina Pinto, the staff co-ordinator of 'Melange 2018 and Mrunali J P, the student president. After the invocation, a dance depicting the theme Melange was performed as a welcome gesture. Marina Pinto introduced the chief guest and delivered the welcome address.

The chief guest in his message expressed wonderment at the efforts put in by the students and staff and wished the students, participants and organizing committee all the very best for the day. He also said that academics must include art and cultural activities to make student life complete and meaningful. Quoting his own personal example, he said that one should not give up one’s talents and aptitude to cater to the demands of society and students should retain their individualism and interests in order to attain success in their career.

Sr Dr M Jeswina AC also encouraged the gathering and wished the students, participants and organizing committees well on 'Melange 2018'. The dignitaries on stage joined hands in the lighting of the lamp which marked the official opening of the fest. The unveiling of the grand trophy was spectacular in itself. The formal inaugural programme was a feast to the eye and the open air stage at St Agnes College was aglow, adorned with beautiful stage decorations that depicted the theme. The stage decoration was magnificent and wholly done by the students of the college and completely handmade using eco-friendly materials in keeping with the green initiative taken up by St Agnes College. Lynn Misquith and Aueralia compered the programme.
