Udupi , Aug 12, 2017 : Bharain Konkans extended financial support to the needy students of Milagres College, Kallianpur near here during the programme at College Audio Visual Hall on Saturday, 5th August, 2017.

Speaking in his presiding address, Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese and President of Catholic Education Society, Udupi (CESU), at the time of installation of Udupi diocese, usually people asked him that about the future planning for the new diocese. He told that it is one of the planning of the diocese that the education never stopped by the poor students of the diocese. No student should suffer in getting education due to financial problems. The diocese is helping more than 300 students by extending financial assistance every year. Around 204 primary students would get financial assistance from the diocese as well.

There are poor students who do not have finance for the education purpose. So diocese is formed the fund in order to provide poor students education which is necessary. He gave gratitude to Bahrain Konkans for their good initiative. For the education sufficient fund will be available, but it is right of the beneficiary student to remember those who gave financial assistance during their education. The beneficial students should give back their contribution to those who need finance for other poor students. If a person has capacity to donate something to needy, the debt of society will be cleared as well.

Earlier the programme started with invocation. Dr. Vincent Alva Principal of Milagres College gave key note address and welcomed the gatherings. He gave gratitude for the donors of Bahrain Konkans for their initiative to give financial help for the poor students of the college.

Vincent Sequira President of Bahrain Konkans handed over the cheque to students in the presence of Bishop. Meanwhile Dr. Gerald Pinto past Principal who introduced Education Fund for the poor students on the occasion of Golden Jubilee celebrations last year with Prof Cyril Mathias as its convener handed over cheques to needy poor students. Dr. Gerald Pinto personally gave financial help for the poor students.

Rev Fr. Lawrence D’Souza, Secretary of CESU appreciated the initiatives of Bahrain Konkans for the better cause.

Rev Dr. Fr. Prakash Anil Castelino Campus Director, Vincent Sequiera, Dr. Gerald Pinto past principal of the college, Prof Cyril Mathias Convener of Golden Jubilee Education Reserve Fund and Dr. Vincent Alva were present.

Kevin Misquith Composer and Singer, Naveen Mendonca, Lilly Mendonca, Simon Machado, Pressy Machado, Melwyn Rodrigues and other Bahrain members were present in off the stage.

Prof Cyril Mathias proposed vote of thanks and Sushmitha compered the programme.
