Vamanjoor, June 21 : The United Nations declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga on December 11, 2014. This initiative was spearheaded by our Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, who emphasized yoga's benefits for harmony and peace. Yoga is an ancient practice which plays an important role in relaxing the mind and body and boosting people’s immune system.

On June 21st, 2024 St. Raymond’s PU College, Vamanjoor celebrated the 10th International Yoga Day with great enthusiasm and participation from students and faculty alike. The event aimed to promote physical and mental well-being through the practice of yoga, emphasizing its role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Principal of the College, Sr. Anita Lydia highlighted the importance of yoga in achieving holistic health in her Inaugural Speech. She urged the students to practice regular yoga to remain fit and improve concentration.

The celebration commenced with a brief introduction to the significance of yoga in contemporary life by Ms. Rashmitha, student of II PUC Science stream. Warm up exercises were taken and faculty along with NSS Unit Students of the college participated actively in yoga sessions, which included breathing exercises (pranayama), meditation, and different yoga poses focusing on flexibility, relaxation, and stress relief. Various yoga asanas (postures) were demonstrated by Yoga Trainer Ms. Shruthi Pramith, a certified yoga practitioner from Ayush Department of Central Government. Participants were encouraged to practice mindfulness and focus on their breathing patterns. The yoga instructor provided detailed explanations of each pose and offered guidance on precautions to be taken.

The session lasted for over an hour, witnessing active participation and engagement from all attendees. Under the supervision of NSS and Sports Instructor Mr. Jayaram Gowda the International Yoga Day celebrations reached a triumphant culmination. The celebration had a profound impact on the participants, fostering a deeper appreciation for yoga as a means to improve physical fitness and mental clarity. Many students expressed interest in incorporating yoga into their daily routines after experiencing its benefits firsthand. The event’s success can be attributed to the meticulous planning, active participation, and the dedication of the organizing team.
