Moodbidri , April 21: The Alleluia Saturday (Easter Vigil) was celebrated on 20th April 2019 from 7.00 p.m at Corpus Christi Church Grounds here. V. Rev. Fr. Paul Sequeira and Rev. Fr. Rohan Dias C.Ss.R were the celebrants of the service.

Service started with blessing of fire.  Easter fire was kindled and the Paschal candle was blessed and lit and then carried in complete darkness, stopping three times to chant the acclamation 'Light of Christ', to which the assembly responded 'Thanks be to God'. As the candle proceeded through, the small candles held by those present were gradually lit from the Paschal candle as this symbolic "Light of Christ" spreads and darkness is decreased.

Second part was the The Liturgy of the Word consisted of four readings from the Old Testament followed by a psalm and a prayer that relates what has been read.  After these readings concluded, the altar candles were lit and the Gloria was sung with church bells ringing.


After the conclusion of the Liturgy of the Word, and sermon the water of the baptismal font was solemnly blessed, and baptismal vows were renewed followed by the sprinkling of baptismal water. The prayer of the faithful was then done.

Rev. Fr. Rohan Dias preached and said , 'Our death is an entry to eternal life by the resurrection of Jesus. We recollected the sufferings and resurrection of Jesus during the Holy week. Also today’s readings told us how God loved his people and saved them.  Also the resurrection gave us hope of eternal life after death".

The parishioners took part in the readings and the liturgical service. The choir did the singing and the Eucharistic Sacrifice of Easter was solemnly celebrated.

The constitution of India - Konkani translation book was inaugurated by the celebrant, President, Vice President & Secretary of the Parish at the end of the service.

Parish Priest thanked all who participated in the service and who helped to make this celebration a success.

After the mass people wished each other Happy Easter. cake and cold juice was served to all present.
