Puttur, Feb 21 A heartfelt tribute and a prayerful condolence programme was held on 17th February 2019 at Mai De dues Church, Puttur. Prior to the programme, a brief introduction was given by Mr. Clement Pinto. Together with Rev. Fr. Alfred J. Pinto & Rev Fr. Praveen D’Souza, a huge number of faithful people of Puttur parish gathered around a banner showing the brave martyrs of India and offered a tribute to the souls of CRPF who were killed in a dastardly terror attack in Kashmir and offered heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

Prior to the programme, all the Sunday Masses were offered to the intention of these victims and their families. Followed by the Eucharistic celebration at 9.30 am, the Priest, sisters and a large crowd of faithful people and the children with lighted candles gathered in the church hall in front of a image of brutal and heinous incident that occurred at Kashmir. As a symbol of love and solidarity towards the nation, a silence mingled with floral tribute was offered by V.Rev.Fr.Alfred J Pinto, Fr. Praveen D’Souza, Mr. J. P Rodrigues, Vice President of PPC, Retd. Soldier Mr. Jerome Mascarenhas and Mr. Fabian Goveas - secretary and children.

A short prayer service was conducted and an intense prayer was offered to the Lord to lead the nation and every citizen in the path of truth and non violence. On the behalf of all catholic faithful Rev. Fr. Praveen D’Souza, Asst. Parish Priest Mai de Deus Church Puttur, offered condolences and tribute to the brave soldiers with heart touching words. A few minutes of silence was observed and the universal prayer “Our Father” was recited, followed by a prayer song and few slogans. Mr. Clement Pinto anchored the prayer session.

Condolence Meet at Puttur School

Students of St. Victors English Medium, St. Victor Girls High school, Mai De Deus Hr. Pry. School at Puttur jointly paid tribute to the 42 CRPF Jawans martyred during a deadly suicide bomb attack on a convoy in Jammu & Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

A short programme held at the premises of St Victors Girls High School on 19, February 2019 at 9.30 a.m. Correspondent of Mai De Deus Educational Institutions Rev. Fr. Alfred John Pinto, Asst. Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Praveen D Souza, Ex-army soldiers, Parish Pastrol council members, PTA members, Heads of the Institutions, staff, the students of three schools were present for the programme.

The programme began with a prayer. Mr. Inas Gonsalves the Asst. Teacher of St. Victor’s Girls’ High school, read the names of the martyrs who died in Pulwama attack. A series of prayers were offered by the students of three schools to the martyrs and their families.

A short condolence message was given by Ex- Army man Shri Rangashashtri. In his speech he said about the duties, responsibilities and the great sacrifice of the soldiers towards the nation. He gave the advice to the students, we can become a soldier by staying in our own place, fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of our country. He also called upon the students to develop the values & the discipline in student’s life through the guidance of the teachers and protect the nation by doing the duties towards the nation .

In order to give tribute to the martyrs, along with the students the Correspondent, Ex-army soldiers and the guests held a candle vigil to the brave men who lost their lives in service of the nation. As a token of special regards, the guests and the students paid homage to the martyrs by offering bouquet of flowers . Meanwhile, one of the ex-army man cried out the slogans viz, “Amar rahe hamara Jawans” to inspire and to give awareness to the students about the sacrifice of the martyrs.

The Correspondent of the school Rev. Fr. Alfred J Pinto gave detailed information of Pulwama attack. He encouraged the students to express their love , patriotism and respect to the nation by joining the defence forces.

Mr. Inas Gonsalves conducted the programme. At the end, he thanked all the guests and the students who participated in the programme.
