March 8, 2017 : In respect and appreciation for women’s economic, political and social achievements, International Womens’ Day was celebrated by CODP® (Canara Organization for Development & Peace) in collaboration with Margadarshi Mahasangha, Kumbla and Ashirvad Mahasangha, Bajpe in two separate programmes on 8th March 2017.

The programme at Kumbla was inaugurated by Fr Marcel Saldanha, Parish Priest of Kumbla and chaired by Fr. Oswald Monteiro, Director-CODP. Ms Fatima, Member of Kumbla Gram Panchayat; Ms Ayesha, Member Enmakaje GP; Mr Jeevan Kolya, Director, Gramothan Foundation; Ms Sajeeda, President and Ms Zaura, Coordinator of Margadarshi MS; were also present on the dais.

Ms Sajeeda welcomed the gathering and Ms Zaura read the annual report of Margadarshi Mahasangha. Rev. Sr Ruby Varghese, Headmistress of Holy Family School and Resource Person of the day spoke on womens’ empowerment and their rights. 138 members participated in the celebrations.

At Bajpe, members of Ashirvad Mahasangha and CODP® Mangaluru held the womens day programme in Bajpe Church hall. Rev Fr Leo Lobo, Parish Priest; Fr Jeevan Sequeira, Assistant Priest; Mrs Rosy Mathias, President of Bajpe GP; Mrs Poornima, President and Mrs Latha Coordinator of Ashirvad MS; were present.

Mr Sujan Crasta, Project Co-ordinator of CODP spoke on womens rights. CODP Animator Mrs Lydia Moras welcomed the gathering and Mrs Nalinakshi, member of Baghyajyothe SHG proposed the vote of thanks. 63 women attended the programme.
