Sacred Heart of Jesus, Maril church was carved out of Puttur parish. The construction work of the church at Maril was done during the time of V. Rev. William Gonsalves, Vicar of Puttur parish. The rest of the work required to erect Maril into a parish was done by V. Rev. Fr Stany B. Lobo, who succeeded Fr William Gonsalves. The church was inaugurated on December 22, 1998. Maril became a parish on May 6, 1999 with Fr Ronald D’Souza as the first parish priest.
