Mangaluru, Oct 2 : "Where there is love, there is life" said the man who made the whole world turn and admire his love for humanity. It is none other than Gandhiji. The 150th birth anniversary of the Father of our Nation was celebrated in all fervor and patriotism. The programme commenced with an all-faith prayer service, highlighting the noble virtue of truth and ahimsa.

How the life of an ordinary child called Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi became the Mahatma, was powerfully narrated by class IV A and B through songs, dance, skit and with a PowerPoint presentation. Homage to Mahatma was paid by showering flower petals to his portrait by the guests. The Chief Guest of the day Mrs. Irene Rebello, Manager, District Skill and Livelihood Department, in her address highlighted the Gandhian principles which are still relevant to our society and motivated the students to live by them and be ambassadors of peace and nonviolence.

The Head Girl Ms. Bhoomika administered the pledge towards ‘Swatch Bharat’ and the Principal Sr. Melissa in her message urged the students to inculcate the values of truth, honesty and simplicity.

The latter part of the morning was utilized for ‘Shramadhan’ which highlighted yet another value of the Mahatma, "Cleanliness is next to Godliness". While the junior students were engaged in cleaning their classrooms and surroundings, the seniors cleaned the public roads, bus stand and the vicinity. The teachers and students with thrash bags picked up the thrash and actively participated in Swatch Bharath-Swatch Vidyalay programme. A group of students also took part in Fit India Plog Run.

On this auspicious day, MCCS proudly unveiled the choral singing group trained by Mr. Roshan DSouza and Mrs. Shilpa Cutinho. The melodious singing of the school anthem with voices made the audience spell bound.

On the previous day, the students of Class II B and C highlighted through a skit, the message of a "United India". The songs sung had in them melody, memories and a message which did inspire the young minds. The students danced to the tune of “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan”, fondly remembering the late Lal Bahadur Shastri, who shares his birthday with the Mahatma.

The chief guest Rev. Fr. Cyril Lobo, Asst. Parish Priest, Bondel Church, citing a few incidents from the life of Gandhiji enlightened the students about the values lived by Gandhiji and the real meaning of freedom. The entire gathering enjoyed his songs on children, freedom and peace.
