Mangaluru, Sep 23 : A 2-day hands on training programme on Basic Care Life Support was conducted for the students and staff of Mangala College of Allied Health and Paramedical Sciences on 13th and 14th September 2022. The training was conducted by JeevaRaksha trust in association with Father Muller Medical College.

A total of 11 staff and 126 students studying in various courses of the college were trained in various skills required for emergency life support like Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), relieving a Choking person and control of excessive bleeding with the help of an improvised tourniquet. All these skills could be provided in any setting with the minimal resources available and not necessarily a hospital setting and would be useful in saving the life of a person.

The theory sessions along with videos were conducted on the topics like various emergencies, scene safety, CPR choking etc on 13th September forenoon session. This was followed by a live demo of the skills. The afternoon sessions of 13th September and 14th September were entirely dedicated to hands-on training using mannequins and volunteers. The sessions were well appreciated by the students and the staff who underwent the training.

The sessions were conducted by Dr Sudhir Prabhu and Dr Nishanth Krishna K from the Department of Community medicine, Dr Smitha Rasquinha from Department of Psychiatry, Dr Swetha Shanbhag from Department of Pediatrics of Father Muller Medical College and Mrs Reena Wilma Frank from Father Muller College of Nursing. Interns Dr Gayatri Kini, Dr Jenny Ann Maria and Dr Monisha P V assisted in the hands-on training. The programme was facilitated by Dr Kishan Rao from JeevaRaksha trust.
