Mangaluru, May 6, 2024 : The Indian Catholic Youth Movement Central Council, Diocese of Mangalore, hosted a memorable event, "ಬೆಸಾಂವ್ ದಿಯಾ ಫಾದರ್," (Bless me Father) at St. Zuze Vaz Home in Jeppu on May 5th. This gathering was a heartfelt tribute to the retired senior priests of Mangalore Diocese, acknowledging their lifelong dedication to the church and the community.

St. Joseph Vaz, who lived in Mangalore in 1681-84, in the honour of this saint the retired priest's home is dedicated to him. It is located near St. Antony's Charity Institute, Jeppu, with the main gate at Nandigudda circle. Bishop Aloysius blessed the foundation for a new complex on January 1, 2015. "Zuze Vaz Home," overseen by Fr. Anil Alfred D'Souza, accommodates 30+ retired priests, with Rev. Msgr. Aloysius D'Souza nearing his 100th year, embodying a lifetime of service and dedication.

The event provided an opportunity for the youth to interact with these esteemed priests, delving into their spiritual and personal journeys. Through shared stories and wisdom, attendees gained valuable insights and fostered deeper connections. It was a meaningful exchange that enriched both the youth and the priests.

Mr. Mithesh D'Souza, President of ICYM Mangalore Diocese, extended a warm welcome to all attendees. Gratitude overflowed during the program as sincere appreciation was expressed to Rev. Fr. Wilson D'Souza and Rev. Fr. Francis Xavier Gomes for facilitating this gathering.

Rev. Fr. Wilson D'Souza highlighted the significance of youth organizations and commended ICYM for their efforts in community engagement. He also emphasized the importance of companionship for the priests, underscoring the impact of visits from the community.

Rev. Fr. Francis Xavier Gomes inspired the youth to tackle societal challenges by encouraging participation in government job exams, emphasizing the value of serving one's own community.

Testimonials, such as Mr. Anil Sequeria's heartfelt reflection on his day spent with the priests, further underscored the profound impact of the retired priests' service.

Rev. Fr. Ashwin Cardoza expressed gratitude for the opportunity to honor the retired priests and acknowledged their invaluable contributions to the parish and the Mangalore Diocese.

As a token of appreciation, each priest was presented with a key bunch, symbolizing the love and respect of the community.

Mr. Lloyd Menezes, Nominated member of ICYM Mangalore Diocese, skillfully compered the program, ensuring a smooth flow of events. The ICYM  Council Members and youths were present for the programme.

The "ಬೆಸಾಂವ್ ದಿಯಾ ಫಾದರ್" event truly exemplified the spirit of gratitude and community, reaffirming the enduring legacy of service upheld by the Indian Catholic Youth Movement Mangalore Diocese.
