Mangaluru, Nov 23 : Infant Jesus Shrine, Carmel Hill - Mangaluru, celebrated Pro Orantibus Day - a day dedicated to all Cloistered communities, on 23rd November 2023. It was Pope Pius XII, who on November 21st, 1953, instituted the titled day, on the Memorial of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin. This day invites the faithful to thank God of the gift of contemplative life and to pray earnestly for those men and women, who respond to God’s call within the four walls of their community, and generously intercede for the needs of the world, and for the building up of the Lord’s Kingdom.

The Holy Eucharist was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Rudolf D’Souza, OCD. Rev. Sr. Jacintha OCD, a cloistered Carmelite nun from Kankanady Carmel, who was present for the Mass, addressed the congregation and spoke of the contemplative life of a Cloistered Carmelite nun. Rev. Fr. Stifan Periera, the Director of the Shrine, prompted questions to Sr. Jacintha, and her responses revealed a deeper insight into the reality of their life in the cloister.
