Dibrugarh, Aug 30 : The Dibrugarh diocese in north east India conducted a media training programme for its priests and women religious at Pastoral Centre, Mancotta on 29 August 2022.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Bishop Albert Hemrom, who is also the Chairman of the Media Commission of North East Regional Bishops’ Council (NERBC), highlighted the need for getting updated on the modern means of communication. “The way we used to communicate has changed and the whole world has migrated to social media communication. If we do not upgrade ourselves, we will not be able to communicate to the present generation”.

The day-long training was attended by 30 participants.

Quoting Pope Francis, Bishop Hemrom said, “I hope that this training will enable you to build human communities with your communication based on love, equality and mutual respect."

The training included topics like the modern way of communication, social media for evangelisation, and hands-on training on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.

Speaking at the conclusion of training, Father Kuriakose Poovathumkudy, the Rector of Oriens Theological College, Shillong, said, “This training did not only highlight the use of social media but also stressed on the purpose of these means of communication.”

The participants too expressed satisfaction over the outcome of the training programme. Father Joy Pallikunnel, an Octogenarian participant said, “I am going to use Twitter to share my daily reflection from today”.

Sponsored by the North East Social Communication of NERBC, the training was conducted by Fathers Tom Mangattuthazhe, the Secretary of NESCOM, Joseph Manikathan, secretary of Media Commission of Dibrugarh diocese and Felix Anthony, PRO of NERBC.
