Mangaluru, Aug 15, 2022 : "The unity of all who dwell in freedom is their only sure defence".

The 75th Independence Day celebration has marked a new spot in the history of India as we have seen the numerous depictions of patriotism throughout the country. The celebrations of Independence in St Agnes CBSE school too was a remarkable event. This year the celebrations were held from 13th August to 15th August.

The grandeur celebrations began with children decorating the classroom with various national symbols, balloons, decorative notice boards, dressed up as freedom fighters was truly a sight to watch. They enthusiastically participated in the flag hoisting ceremony and showed the spirit of oneness among all. Various activities such as poster making, quiz and essay writing were also conducted for the students.

The formal programme was held on 15th August with a spectacular flag hoisting ceremony done by the Chief guest Mr Praveen Shetty Retired Kargil Officer Indian Army, the Principal Sr. Maria Gracilda AC and the co-ordinator Sr. Sweedal Fernandes AC. To symbolise patriotism with singing the National Anthem and Vijay Vishwathi in honour of the day was presented in a glorious way with the august gathering of parents, students and teachers.

The cultural programme was followed by a meaningful prayer service. Angelica Quadros of grade IV gave a formal welcome to all gathered for the occasion. She introduced the chief guest with his courage and valour shown at the Kargil War in 1999 with the recipient of the youngest soldier award to his credit. He has a record of killing over more than 47 terrorists in the north regiment. The programme continued with spectacular dances of patriotism and secularism by grade VIIID students. The importance of a soldier’s life was depicted through a dance drama by grade IV and grade IX students. The significance was well presented to all depicting the importance of the day’s celebration. These performances brought back memories to every one of the freedom that we enjoy because of the sacrifice of the freedom fighters and soldiers of our nation.

The guest too in his speech congratulated everyone for their brilliant and captivating performance. He emphasised the true meaning of patriotism and courage. The role of the army was put forth by him showing their sacrifice made for the nation. He shared some heart touching memories of his army days and gave a brief insight of the real difficulties faced by the soldiers. He advised the students to always remember the soldiers, show respect to elders and not to waste food since every grain of food is important. He emphasised that patriotism need not be shown in big ways as small gestures make a lot of difference. He urged the students to join the army especially girls as they are given a lot of support in the Indian Army was brought forth in his speech. He concluded the speech with a command “Bholo Bharath Matha Ki Jai” with creating an aura of vibrations among the audience.

The principal too in her words emphasised that a feeling of patriotism should be lingered in the hearts of everyone every day. She appreciated all the students for their meaningful performance and teachers and parents for their support and participation in the programme.

The event hosts were Jane Justin and Tania Ewa of grade VIIID, Tanya Ranger of grade VIII placed before us the significance of the day. Shelvina of grade IV proposed the vote of thanks showing her gratitude to all on this occasion. Refreshments were served at the end of the programme.
