Mangaluru, May 28 : ‘Students don’t need a perfect teacher. They need a happy teacher who makes them excited to come to school and grow a love for learning’. Keeping this in mind, the management of St Theresa’s School organised a one day orientation program for the teachers before the start of the new academic year. The resource person for the day was Dr Fr Xavier SJ. Fr Xavier is presently working as the research director, central library director and professor of environmental science at St Joseph’s Arts and Science College, Bengaluru.

The orientation program began at 9 am. After the formal inauguration, the speaker began his talk on the topic - Teacher, A nation builder.

He stressed the staff to follow the 3 R’s - Revive, Renew and Relax during the session. ‘Teachers are the hallmark of generosity and create the next generation.’ Therefore all teachers should first and foremost be grateful to God, was explained in brief. The speaker presented many quotes to explain how teachers touch the lives of students and leave a mark in the society. An inspirational video was shown highlighting how teachers are instrumental in building relationships. The speaker also stressed on the importance of teaching children the value of things in life. The speaker ended the first session by explaining the important role of a teacher in creating warriors for the future.

The second session dealt with the mission of missionary education. The quote by Albert Einstein, ‘The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil but by those who watch them without doing anything’ was explained beautifully by the speaker. The speaker connected another quote by Mahatma Gandhi - ‘Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever’ to explain this point a bit deeper and felt it should be the motto of all missionary educational institutions. Education will surely support the students to think logically and open doors for a bright future, was explained meaningfully. Teachers should always help the students grow silently in their chosen path , help them understand the importance of sharing with their fellow beings, in-still confidence in them and stress the importance of trusting God in all their ways of life was explained briefly before concluding the second session.
