Mangaluru, Oct 2 : Helpage India and St. Joseph’s Prashanth Nivas, Spandana Trust celebrated International Day of Older Persons on 1st October 2018 at Spandana Trust, Infant Mary’s Convent Jeppu, here.

The programme started with prayer. Special Guest was Rev. Sister Marceline Braggs, superior of Infant Marys Convent. President was Mr. M. Prakashan, Deputy Director for programmes, Helpage India Bengaluru. Other guests were Honorary President of Abhayashram Mr. Shrinath Hegde. Spandana Trust Administrator Rev. Sister Helen Fernades, Rev. Sister Dorathy Public relation officer and Mrs. Theertha social worker from Spandana Trust. All were welcomed and introduced by Mr. Prakashan, Helpage India. Nearly 225 older persons were present for the programme. The inmates of Prashanth Nivas and outside old persons participated in the programme. All of them enjoyed and felt good.

Mr. K.R. Lokesh, Rtd. Person from Indian Coast Gourd, the member of Patanjali Yoga Association briefed the older persons about food habits and the importance of exercises which was informative. He said that older persons are the source for the younger generation to be physically and mentally healthy by following certain life style. He informed that to have normal Blood pressure – slow and deep breathing, Diabetes – pancreas to be taken care of by doing exercise producing insulin, Obesity – only required food to be taken, Alzheimer - mind should be free without any thoughts while going to bed. No dependency on others but doing simple exercises being healthy.

Mr. Prakashan in his presidential speech mentioned that since the Helpage India started, Srs. of Charity is involved with the older persons project. Till today there is contact with them by donating a vehicle for them. He also welcomed each guest and the gathering.

An appeal was read by Mrs. Meenakshi, manager of Helpage India. It is to be given to the ministry of India demanding Rs. 2,000 per month as pension for all the older persons. Spinsters, widows also should be given the pension and to be looked after them by the Government.

Special guest Rev. Sr. Marceline gave the information on the vehicle that was given by Helpage India. It can be used for all the members of Prashanth Nivas. She thanked on every ones behalf to Helpage India specially Mr. Prakashan who came all the way from Bengaluru.

Games were conducted for the older persons. The animators acted small skits providing knowledge about the family life.

Vote of thanks was given by Mrs. Theertha, Social worker of Spandana Trust. The programme was convened by Mrs. Evelyn, the animator of Spandana Trust.
