Mangaluru, July 31 : Carmel English Medium Higher Primary School Kotekar celebrated ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ on July 31, 2023 to pay tribute to the Kargil martyrs who were the symbol of courage and sacrifice for safeguarding the borders of our country.

On this day in 1999, India recaptured the heights of Kargil from Pakistani infiltrators, ending the 60-day ‘Operation Vijay’ successfully. Indian soldiers showed tremendous courage and fought till the end to recapture the Kargil outposts from the Pakistanis.

The programme began with a prayerful atmosphere, as a prayer dance led by the students of Grade III A. The day was commemorated with speeches on the bravery of soldiers, patriotic songs, and a skit that filled the entire atmosphere with patriotism.

Harshali og Grade III A explained the significance of ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’, followed by an inspirational and emotional skit that made us feel proud of our soldiers and our country. Teachers and students together paid homage to the soldiers who lost their precious lives in making our country safe and secure.

The chief guest for the celebration was Sr. Ashwina D Almeida, the coordinator of the lower primary classes. She addressed the gathering and said that we must ‘remember’ our martyrs by revisiting their sacrifices, ‘rejoice’ by celebrating the victory in Kargil, and ‘renew’ our resolve to safeguard the honour of the tricolor. Patriotism is a social value, and its feeling, when inculcated at the school level, ensures that students become responsible citizens of the nation.

The programme was welcomed by Saanvi. It was compered by Viha and  Faaz  and Sathvik thanked the audience.
