Prior to 1936, Sullia was part of Mai de Deus parish, Puttur. Parish Priest of Puttur Fr J. A. Rodrigues fulfilled the need of a filial church at Sullia in May 1936. In 1937 Sullia mission was bifurcated from Puttur and declared an independent parish dedicated to St Brigid of Ireland.
